Susan I. Barr, PhD, FDC

Professor Emeritus of Nutrition
The University of British Columbia

Dr. Susan Barr is a Professor Emeritus of Food, Nutrition and Health at the University of British Columbia. Her research interests relate to how women’s cognitions about food, eating, and body weight may have physiological implications for their health. She has also done work examining dietary practices and nutrient adequacy, including the perceptions and practices of those with self-reported lactose intolerance.

Dr. Barr has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals. She was involved in the development of the initial Dietary Reference Intakes as a member and Chair of the Subcommittee on Interpretation and Uses of DRIs, and subsequently served on the Committee on Development of Guiding Principles for the Inclusion of Chronic Disease Endpoints in Future Dietary Reference Intakes. She has also been a member of a number of Health Canada committees, and serves as an Editorial Board member for Nutrition Today and the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism. Dr. Barr received her PhD in human nutrition from the University of Minnesota, and has received several awards for teaching, research and service including being named as a Fellow of Dietitians of Canada.
