The environment and milk: get the facts

Ready to learn more about the current environmental footprint of milk production in Canada and the ways farmers have proactively reduced it? Watch this webinar designed for health professionals. 

By the end of this webinar, participants will:

  • Learn about the decreasing environmental impact of milk production in Canada, as measured through a life-cycle analysis.
  • Better understand the components of the environmental footprint, i.e. land and water resources needed for milk production and greenhouse gas emissions related to farm activities and transportation of milk to the processing plant.

Topics to be addressed

  • The current environmental footprint of milk production in Canada and the ways farmers have proactively reduced it.
  • Resources needed (water, land, energy) in the production of milk and greenhouse gas emissions resulting from on-farm activities and transportation of milk.
  • The importance of considering data that is country-specific when assessing the impact of foods on the environment.

Jean-Michel is a partner and senior consultant at Groupe AGÉCO. As an agricultural economist, Jean-Michel has experience in agricultural policy and international trade. As an expert in the field of corporate social responsibility (CSR), Jean-Michel has participated in several Canadian and European projects, involving the review, the evaluation and the development of sustainability standards, in particular in the field of social life cycle analysis.

Jean-Michel has collaborated with numerous agricultural associations, including the Dairy Farmers of Canada and Quebec Hog Producers, as well as with companies such as Nespresso and Hydro-Québec to develop evaluation frameworks and measure the impacts of organizations. His job is to help organizations take advantage of their business environment by capitalizing on their environmental and socio-economic performance.
