Milk Product Consumption Per Capita

Every year Statistics Canada releases per capita consumption data on various food items according to food availability and disappearance data. You will find here the data specific to milk products. New data is released in May of each year and reflects the estimated consumption of the previous year.

The per capita consumption of milk products for 2009 is as follows:

Total Fluid Milk 57.22 L (157 mL per day)
Total Cheeses 9.99 Kg (27 g per day)
Yogurt 5.47 L (15 mL per day)

This represents about 1.3 servings/day

Of the Total Fluid Milk consumption, 2% milk represents the largest intake:

  • 2% Milk = 26.28 L
  • 1% Milk = 12.75 L
  • Whole (3.25%) milk = 7.84 L
  • Skim milk = 6.05 L
  • Milk chocolate drink = 4.03 L
